St Oswald's church was consecrated on 16th May 1934 and since then,has been a visible sign and centre of Christian prayer, worship and ministry as well as being present for people of all faiths and none. Many people have come to celebrate life events such as christenings, weddings and funerals and so we are a very special place for them. Others thers have enjoyed our beautiful garden or taken part in activities held in the parish hall, and many have come to the church to pray and to worship God. The area may have changed over the 90 years, but we are still there for everyone who lives in our parish.

All of this is cause for celebration on pur 90th Anniversary, and it is your celebration too!

Here are details of services and events that will be happening during the week of 

Sunday 12th - Sunday 19th May

Anniversary Week Services

10 am Sunday 12 May

 

Sung Eucharist

 

During the service we will give thanks for the past year of church life. To be

followed by the Annual Church Meeting to look ahead and make plans for the

future.

 

 

Thursday 16 May, 7.30 pm

 

Thanksgiving Service of Evening Prayer

Anniversary of Consecration Day

 

The church will be open from 2pm for tours of the building, exhibition, floral

displays and the Memory Wall. Visit the garden to see posters about the

interesting trees designed by the Rainbows and Brownies

 

 

Sunday 19 May, 10 am

 

Celebration Eucharist

with Rt Rev’d Dr Rosemarie Mallett, Bishop of Croydon

 

Our main celebration service coincides wonderfully with the Feast of Pentecost

– often described as the birthday of the Christian Church

 

Our other regular services, at 8am on Sunday and 10:30am on Wednesday will take place as usual.

 

 

Events and Activities

 

Tuesday 14 May, 2pm

 

A History of our Local Area

 

Well-known local historian John Brown will give a fascinating insight into the

history of the area around St Oswald’s. Followed by refreshments hosted by the

Women’s Fellowship, but open to all.

Free, all welcome – but please let us know you’re coming!

 

 

Sunday 19 May, 3pm

 

Anniversary Celebration

and Community Afternoon Tea

 

Join us in our beautiful garden for an afternoon of live, rousing, big band music,

dance performance and activities for children. In the company of the Civic

Mayor of Croydon and other special guests.

 

Free, all welcome but please let us know you’re coming!

 

 

 

Throughout the week the church will be open at times shown on our website

and groups that meet in the Hall are joining in the celebrations with special activities

including:

 

Monday 7pm Flexercise display

Thursday 2pm Pop-in Club 5.30pm Taekwondo display.
